Outpost Performance Space , 210 Yale SE, Albuquerque

Former Ray Charles “Raelette” Tracey Whitney pays homage to legendary jazz stylist, the late Miss Nancy Wilson, in a program which she has dubbed “Guess Who I Saw Today?” A family friend, “Miss Nancy” encouraged a teenaged Whitney to sing jazz, once telling her “Tracey, your voice was made for ballads.” Songs will include Tracey’s own 2017 New Mexico Music Awards nominee for Best Vocal Performance, “An Older Man Is Like An Elegant Wine.” She will also share stories of Wilson’s celebrated career and family life. Whitney recently completed a residency at the Hotel Andaluz with her show The Art of Jazz with Tracey Whitney (named Best of the City for Jazz by Albuquerque the Magazine 2018). She’ll be joined by Jim Ahrend, piano; Rodney Bowe, bass; Wayne Johnson, drums; and Paul Gonzales, trumpet. Dr. Mariano Morales, is a native of Puerto Rico, has enjoyed a diverse career as a composer, arranger, music director and instrumentalist (violin and piano) and has worked with artists including Andrea Bocelli, Tito Puente, Giovanni Hidalgo, Eddie Palmieri, Nestor Torres and many others. He has performed in numerous jazz festivals and clubs and has received numerous commissions for his work. Tonight, he presents a concert he calls “Intimo” with Justin Bransford, a first call bassist in New Mexico who works in broad range of styles including Jazz, Salsa, Flamenco, Rock, Tango, Bossa Nova, Reggae, Blues, Cumbia, and more. The trio also features drummer/percussionist Javier Saume Mazzei, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, who relocated to Albuquerque in 2018. Mazzei has performed internationally and has recorded and toured with the Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-nominated Sones de Mexico Ensemble. $15/$10 Members & Students
